Mary Ellen is a gestalt psychotherapist/counsellor with a warm and friendly presence, creating a safe and non-judgemental relationship in the therapy room. Her work is shaped by her various trainings and her life experiences, which have included or been touched by creative practices, chronic illness, ADHD and autism, caring and motherhood. Her passion for social justice informs her work as well.
Mary Ellen favours the Gestalt approach because of the way it works with clients’ past experiences as well as who they are in the present. She believes that the key to lasting change goes beyond understanding ourselves; we also need to be aware of how we are showing up in response to life - to events, relationships, emotions and challenges. With this awareness we can decide whether to stay with our habitual responses or try something different. 
As a gestalt therapist, Mary Ellen will support you to develop this awareness and experiment with new possibilities. She has a particular focus on working with neurodivergent clients and is also interested in many other areas, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, long-term caring, adjustment to significant life transitions, and personal growth and exploration. In addition to general psychotherapy, she offers life coaching specifically for neurodivergent people.
